The Iranian tourist Visa validity is a 30-day single entry. but luckily, it’s quite easy to extend Iran Visa. you can extend your Iran visa whether you have a tourist Visa or work permission Visa. The good news is that, it’s possible to extend your Iran Visa twice which brings your stay in Iran to a total of 90 days. If you are picking up your Visa at an Iranian embassy and have permission to stay in Iran for 30 days, the Police Aliens Affairs Dept. usually extends your Visa for another 30 days. Extending Iran Visa on arrival is a little difficult, you may only get a 15-day extension. Visa extensions are available at the Police Offices of Foreign Aliens in major Iranian cities like: Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, Mashhad, and Tabriz. you can extend your Iran Visa in other cities too but plan your itinerary so that you can extend your Visa in cities which are more familiar with tourists. Be sure to provide cogent reasons for a Visa extension. otherwise, your request might be declined.

Requirements to extend your Tourist Visa:

  1. A valid passport with at least 6 months validity
  2. Complete the visa extension form,
  3. Two Copies of the picture page of your passport,
  4. Copy of your current Iran Visa and any other extensions,
  5. Two passport size photos,
  6. Fee for the extension (about IR 500,000),

Work Permit Visa Extension

Work permit visa will be extended by Police Aliens Affairs Dept. with Coordination of the Department of Aliens Employment at the ministry of labor and Social Affairs and on the basis of a request by the Iranian sponsor of the applicant.

Diplomatic and Service Visa Extension

Diplomatic and service Visa will be extended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs upon request of the concerned Foreign Diplomatic Mission in Tehran.

How long does it take to extend my Iran Visa?

There are no general rules as it depends where you apply for this extension. It can be done during the same day or a couple of days maximum. we advise you to extend your Iran Visa 3 or 4 days before the end of your current Iran Visa, as it is nearly impossible to extend if you have too many days left on your Iran Visa.

 

Good to Know:

  • Visa extensions are available only at the Police Officers of Foreign Aliens in major Iranian cities.
  • Everybody can extend Visa, no matter how you got your visa.
  • It will be much easier to extent your visa if you had previously obtained it prior to your arrival in Iran.
  • If your original 30 days visa from your embassy, you can extend your visa twice, which means a 30 days visa can become a 90 days Visa.
  • Airport Visa can only be extended if Iranian Foreign Affair Office finds it necessary. In that case, usually maximum 14 days extension is possible. If you’re planning on staying longer than 30 days, make sure to get your Iranian Visa at the Embassy instead.
  • Extending Visa in major cities is easy, inexpensive and convenient.
  • Extending Visa is nearly impossible if you have too many days left on your Visa.
  • The cost of Visa extension is less than five euros each time.
  • Your extension starts on the day the extension is issued, not from the end of the original Visa.
  • Yazd or Esfahan are very popular places to extend your Visa among travelers.
  • Police Department of Aliens Affairs offices are open from Saturday to Wednesday at 7:30 AM. to 2:00 PM. The offices are usually very crowded.
  • It is best to get to the office early in the morning. check Iranian national holidays to avoid any delays.
  • Your Visa extension should be issued within 1-3 hours, however, the process may take up to 3-4 days for some cases.
  • We advise you to extend your visa 3 or 4 days before the end of your current visa,
  • Extending your Visa can only depend of the mood of the agent in front of you.
  • Overstaying your Visa, even by a few hours, could cause you to be detained.
  • You can extend your Iranian visa by its original duration twice. This means a 30-day visa with 2 extensions gives you 90 days in Iran.
  • Extending your visa is very easy and feasible.
  • Typically, if you get a 1-month visa, you can extend it twice for 30 days. This means that you can travel in Iran for up to 90 days.
  • The offices are open from Saturday to Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Note: The process of extending your visa can be faster if you go to small cities. Trying to extend the visas in Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz can take more time since they are more crowded.
  • Plan the visit a few days before your existing visa is due to expire. Be sure to provide cogent reasons for a visa extension. Otherwise, your request might be declined.
  • Note: The extension of your visa when you get it in the airport is depended on the discretion of Police Aliens Affairs Dept. If you have a 15-day Iran visa on arrival you only can extend it up to another 15 days.
  • Offices are open from Saturday to Wednesday, 7:30 AM – 2 PM. The offices are usually very crowded so go there in the morning and start the process faster. Start the visa extension process 1-3 days left before your visa is expired.
  • Your extension starts on the day the extension is issued, not from the end of the original visa. Check with the Online Persian calendar to check the date.
